About Gordon Head United Church

Gordon Head United Church is situated in the geographic center of Gordon Head, within the municipality of Saanich, a suburb of Victoria.  In general we have an elderly congregation because our warm climate has attracted more retirees than the rest of Canada.  We also have many middle aged couples who have raised families in the area and have longtime connection with Gordon Head United Church.

Our church consists of approximately 200 families.  The most noticeable recent change is the growth of youth programs.  Our Youth Group has increased in numbers from zero to about 30 since 2003 and is currently the largest among the sixteen United Churches in Greater Victoria.  Sunday School is also growing and now requires six regular teachers.  Our regular church service is at 10 o’clock on Sunday.  We have a number of active congregational groups such as the U.C.W. who hosts social functions, meetings, fundraising and bridge.  The Thrift Shop offers a much needed outreach to the community.  The Men’s group holds monthly dinner meetings with speakers from the University of Victoria and the community. The Woman’s dinner group meets monthly for fellowship.  The Uniters provide monthly evening programs for entertainment and fellowship. The craft and fellowship groups meet monthly preparing special items for Church events and bazaars.  A mother and tots group meets weekly.  There are walking, golfing, bridge and coffee/breakfast fellowship groups that meet on a regular basis.  We have an active and enthusiastic choir that provides music for the service and special events.
